Aloha! Even with a big deflation, lava was able to be seen and our groups were able to safely view multiple surface breakouts. The leading edge of the coastal plain flow is approximately 0.75 mi away from the base of the pali. Up on the pali, surface flows have spread out and are visible from the Kalapana Lava Viewing Area. This flow is fairly large and could be the reason for the big deflation. Activity was still good even with the deflation.Until next time, Aloha!
