Tour Updates

Aloha Folks! We will be starting our tours again soon. There are new outbreaks that are making their way toward the Pali. There is an eastern breakout and a western breakout. Both breakouts are approximately 3-3 1/2 miles away from Pu’u O’o. These flows are getting closer the the edge of the Pali and should advance fairly quickly if the DI inflation continues.

We took a helicopter ride to check out the advancing flows and found the two new breakouts. Much Mahalo to Paradise Helicopters and our pilot Marco, who is an awesome pilot that we recommend if you decide to do a helicopter ride with Paradise. We will post the new tour times and start date soon. Here are some photos from our helicopter ride. Until next time, Aloha!

View of Pu’u O’o on our way there.

Visible lava in the eastern collapse pit.

The new flow is the lighter colored lava seen in the upper portion of the photo.

Nice surface flow as seen from the helicopter. (Photo shot with a zoom lens).

This is what remains of Jack Thompson’s home, which was taken on March 2, 2012.

This is the last house in the abandoned Royal Gardens Subdivision. No one is living here.

We also got to check out some waterfalls. Beautiful!

Aloha Gang!
