September 25, 2012 Tour/Update

Aloha Gang! Our tour was successful, being that our group was able to safely view surface breakouts. The leading edge has advanced further downhill to about the 1000 ft elevation level. The hike however, is still very strenuous and rough. The hike roundtrip is approximately 8 mi. The amount of time roundtrip is still approximately 6 1/2 – 7 hrs. This is an Extreme hike.

The lava viewing was awesome with multiple surface breakouts visible. The flow is still very wide and is actually even wider with the advancement of the leading edge. However, the leading edge will most likely pull all of the lava pressure along with it. Until next time, Aloha!
