September 7, 2012 Lava tour update

Aloha everyone! Happy Aloha Friday to everyone. New Lava flows could be seen in Kalapana again. A new flow just started to peak out over the Royal Gardens subdivision. There was an western lobe that is flowing right on top of the August tube system. Hopefully that flow will find the tube system and occupy it and start feeding the Lava to the coastal plains. And there is a eastern lobe which is pretty far east of Royal gardens which on thermal imagery this flow was more strong at the time. These flows could be access by hiking. It is a do-able hike. We will start to resume the tours on Monday if the Lava cooperates. Steady inflation with minor deflation would be the primary focus. This would help it move down the hill making the Hike shorter. Strong Deflation would stall the flow in resulting postponing the tour time. We will take an overflight of the Lava flow with a helicopter today to see if this flow is actually really active or just a minor flow. We will take pictures of the flow front and Pu’u O’o and post it tonight on our blog so stay tune. After the overflight we will have a better idea of the flows. Aloha!

September 6, 2012 Lava tour update

Aloha everyone! Sorry to say our tours is still on paused until further notice because the actual Lava flow is approximately about 5 to 6 miles from us now. It is a little too far for the majority of our guests. But if some of our guests are willing to make that trek then we can make this extreme Lava tour happen for you. There is a new flow making it’s way to the tour area. This flow could reach our area at the earliest by the beginning of next week. We are hoping it will. With steady inflation we could see it in our area soon. Inflation at the summit was strong this week. Hopefully this will bring more activity to the coastal plains soon. Well Aloha and have a great Day.
