October 29, 2012 Tour

Aloha! Despite the big deflation the lava activity was amazing. This was very surprising, but you have to factor in the huge inflation that had happened for the past few weeks. Now the tilt meter, which can be found on the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory website (www.hvo.wr.usgs.gov), is currently recording a series of small DI inflation-deflation events.

There were multiple surface flows that were visible and that our group was able to safely get up close to. The leading edge of the flow is approximately 0.8 miles away from the ocean and has not advanced very much in the past two weeks. Overall lava activity is still good, so contact us at (808) 936-0456 or via email for information or to reserve your spots. Aloha!
