Aloha! The lava has started flowing into the ocean once again after stopping for a few days. This finger of lava reached the ocean at approximately 11:00 am Saturday morning. There were 4 areas along this finger of lava that were making their way into the ocean. Multiple surface flows were visible above the ocean entry and our groups were able to get up close to both the surface flows and the ocean entry safely. Up towards the Pali, there were many surface flows that were also visible.
The Tilt meter (found on the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory website (www.hvo.wr.usgs.gov) is currently recording an ongoing inflation at both the Halema’uma’u crater and the Pu’u O’o vent. The amount of activity that we have been seeing lately can be contributed to the ongoing inflation. Really good overall activity. Till next time, Aloha!
P.S.- Here are some pics from the ocean angle.
