December 26, 2012 Guided Lava Hikes

Aloha everyone again! Deflation in full effect and no ocean entry at this time. Lava flows on the coastal plains and the Pali. But deflation has occurred for the second straight day and and the Lava lake in the Halema’uma’u crater had dropped below the inner ledge but still remain very active at this time. Tilt meters around the summit had shown 4 microdians in decrease on the whole volcano but looks like its bottoming out today. At Pu’u O’o crater, the Lava lake still remain active in the thermal webcam on the Hawaiian Volcanoes Observatory website. Those camera’s could be viewed at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/cams/.

Last night our tours were very successful in viewing Lava. During massive deflation, the flow still remain active. Our guided lava tours were up and going after a beautiful Christmas day. Last night the moon was out shining bright over the flow field, making it so awesome. NO RAIN! NO OCEAN ENTRY as of right now. Many flows were active on the flow field. Small rivers to big tumulus breakouts. Book a tour now while it’d hot. Aloha!
