February 14, 2013 Guided Lava Hike

Aloha Viewers! Tonight’s groups were able to view both the¬†surface flows and the ocean entries. We were able to safely get up close to and feel the heat from surface flows that were just above the ocean entry. There were multiple ocean entries that were entering the ocean at the cliff edge. The new ocean entry that started approximately two days ago has stalled slightly, but may have broken out again since we left. Up high on the Pali, there were no surface flows visible. There was a bright glow that was coming from the direction of Pu’u O’o and it could be seen coming off of the clouds. Until next time, Aloha!
