March 17, 2013 – Guided Lava Hike

We had an awesome tour last night! Aloha, The ocean entry was a little sluggish, but was still flowing. There are a couple of entry points, unlike the amount of entry points that we had the past few months and earlier in the month. At first, the surface flow was sluggish as well, but as we were on our way to check on the status of the surface flow, there was a big surface that broke out. When we got there it was awesome! This surface flow was a really nice one and was flowing really well.

Up on the Pali, there was no surface flow that we were able to see, but at the base of the Pali there was a glow, which would indicate a surface flow. The Kahaualea flow is still advancing and is approximately 2.5 mi away from Pu’u O’o. This may be the reason for the minor deflation that we are experiencing. The weather was cloudy, but we were able to stay dry. Awesome night, Aloha!
