September 8,2013 Guided Lava Tour Update

Aloha everyone! As of right now, THERE IS NO FLOWING LAVA on the coastal plains. The once 2 year continuous active flow on the coastal plains has stalled out due to the now active Kahaualea lava flow which is north of Pu’u O’o crater. These flows are completely on the opposite side of the coastal plains. The tube system that supplies us with lava has split into two different tube systems. One feeding the Peace Day flow, which is where we conduct our tours and is located southeast of Pu’u O’o crater and the other is going north which is entering the Kahaualea forest reserve. Our company ┬áhad took a flight in the morning and to our surprise lava on the Kahaualea forest reserve remained active but sluggish at this time. Real minor flows at the Kahaualea flow. As for the peace day flow, Lava is still being fed through the tube system. Just above the Royal Gardens subdivision a sky light was visible with lava flowing through it. A nice breakout over the Royal Gardens subdivision was visible also. These flows are very active. We are planing a flight later on this week for an update. Stay tuned for more. Mahalo!
